To deepen the bread crisis nationwide, bakery owners in Borolos manipulated their flour quotas...baked a small amount of flour quota and sold the remaining great part to fish farm owners who turn bread into fish fodder. In response to this manipulation, Borolos residents filed petitions against bakery and fish farm owners as well as ration squad for their connivance with manipulators. When they found no response, the residents took to the streets claiming for baking the whole flour quotas. But the Egyptian security dealt with the protest in a violent way and led to many casualties. So far we haven't got the precise numbers of casualties except for Nadir Samir who was injured because of the shrapnels of a tear gas bomb.

Burning Farm Land in Sarando

Ahmed Al Dalil, a police informant working for Nawar's family, carried out an arson attack on a farm land belongs to a Sarando-based female farmer called Kawkab Abdel Mon'em Qabeel. At about 5pm Saturday, June 7, Sarando residents saw fire flames eating the one acre farm land of Qabeel. After extinguishing the fire, Al Bohira security investigations came to the scene and wrote its report in which Kawkab accused Al Dalil and Nawar family of setting fire to her property. To ease the situation, police investigators tried to make a deal for withdrawing the petition filed against Al Dalil. A customary session was held and a fund receipt was written against both parties (Kawkab and Al Dalil) to secure safety and security. Furthermore, Al Dalil has a black record in terms of filing fake reports against farmers for the benefit of Nawar family. Last week, he filed a report against Kawkab, whose land was burnt, accusing her of stealing his crop, not to mention a series of harassments against her. More and as part of his black record, he threatened another female farmer called Sabria al Gizawi to file fake reports against her, who in turn filed a complaint dated May 31, 2008.  التفاصيل »

Heralds of Renewing Emergency Law, Hundreds of Borg al Arab Detainees Go on Hunger Strike

Heralds of Renewing Emergency Law
Hundreds of Borg al Arab Detainees Go on Hunger Strike
A 60 Year Old Striker Went to Hospital
With grave concerns the Hisham Mubarak Law Center has followed the huger strike launched since 25 May by hundreds of Borg al Arab detainees in protest against the measures the Ministry of Interior is practicing against them and against Sinai nomads. Sinai Bedouins have been confined under the state of emergency law only for being Bedouins. The justifications used to arrest them sustain this policy. They used to say, the Ministry of Interior of course, that the suspect vanishes at day and appears at night...he knows everything about Sinai roads and lanes...he isn't afraid of security staff while he casts fear on the hearts of security personnel and so on.
The health risks of the hunger strike have appeared on a number of hunger strikers, especially on the 60-year-old Issa Mohammad Adam whose health has deteriorated and was transferred to a hospital. Adam, who comes from Haliab and Shalateen, has spent so far five years in jail.  التفاصيل »

Charging Mahalla Workers With Incitement

The Minister of Interior has once again ordered the Sinai activist and novelist Mosaad Abu Fagr to be detained in Borg al Arab jail.  Abu Fagr was arrested after the eruption of demonstrations in Rafah city in protest against the Egyptian government that tried to take over the houses of the Egyptian citizens living in the city. The Public Prosecutor's Office charged Abu Fagr, among others, with inciting the riot actions in addition to resisting authorities and assaulting civil servants on duty. By the way, the court overruled the first detention decision issued by the Minister of Interior. Waiting for extending the state of emergency, Abu Fagr was kept in Arish custody for 15 days and then transferred to Borg al Arab under the emergency law to be the first victim of the 27-year-old state of emergency in its new version.  التفاصيل »

Mahalla: In an arbitrary move, the administration of Misr Spinning and Weaving Company in Mahalla-al-Kubra fired three workers, Kareem, Kamal and Tareq, for allegedly being absent since April 6. It is well known that they didn't do this with their own free will but rather for being detained since that day. More, though the court returned a release order, the Minister of Interior kept them in Borg al Arab concentration camp. The most interesting thing in this story was that the company has already received a document from the Prosecutor's Office saying the three workers are under detention. To confirm this the Front has sent ultimatums to the company about the compulsory absence of the three workers..  التفاصيل »
