Synopses of HMLC books

1) Workers & Social Resistance "the1st issue of 'People Cases Series'":

In cooperation with the Coordinating Committee for Labor Rights & Liberties, HMLC issued this book as the second one in the People Issues Series, which began in 2006 by the Social Insurance Funds book. In this series, the problems and issues of common people are addressed in a simple way. Workers & Social Resistance monitors labor resistance throughout the period Jan/March 2007. By numerating social protests, the book monitors the limits of labor social resistance, clarifies labor discontent from living conditions, and contributes to documenting them. Needless to say, documentation provides us a wider vision and deeper analysis for future prospects of labor movement. A report issued by the High Administrative Court's Commissioners Panel was submitted yesterday in which the challenge of the judge Abdel Fatah Mourad was rejected in terms of the subject and accepted in terms of the form. The challenge (10171/53 judicially) was lodged by Mourad immediately after the Administrative Court of Justice overturned his claim for obscuring 49 human rights websites, including HMLC, individuals and firms. It was filed before the High Administrative Court which referred it to its commissioners panel and determined November 3, 2008 to review the report.

The Administrative Court of Justice in Cairo adjourned the suitcase filed by Doctors Without Rights versus the prime minister's decree no 1185/2003 which bans strike action in hospitals. The upcoming court session is to be held on September 1, 2008 for hearing the government's answer. HMLC's lawyers have pleaded the unconstitutionality of articles 192, 194 enshrined in Labor Law no 12/2003.

Fathi al Hefnawi who was arrested in connection with April 6 clashes had returned to his home in Basion.

Kafr al Sheikh prosecutor's office released 23 defendants, raising the number of those released to 50 people, and remanded 37 others in custody for four days.

Kafr al Sheikh Prosecutor's Office, which interrogated yesterday the 87 people accused of riot actions, has been marred with several legal and constitutional defects. It denied counsels their right to get access to the official documents related to the case or even releasing the defendants' names. More, it refused to release the decision taken. Anyway, the decision was releasing 28 people, their names are to be revealed later, and continuing investigations tomorrow morning.

The lawyer Tareq Ghatas reported us with some detainees' names. According to ghatas four students were arrested: Ragy Bahgat al Sheikh, Ali Muhammad Atia, Mahmoud Abdel Da'em Atia, and Esam Sedqy Mansour, in addition to three juveniles and a woman called Aziza Muhammad Qandeel. So far, the attorney general hasn't issued a decision concerning the defendants.
